The Virgin Islands Long Course Swimming Championships were held at the Dolphins Pool on St. Croix this past weekend May 18-19. Forty four St. Croix Dolphins swimmers competed alongside 19 St. Thomas and St. John Stingrays.

 A $2,000 cash prize awaits the angler who reels in the largest qualifying fish in the upcoming annual Father’s Day Fishing Tournament in Frenchtown on June 2. Now in its 18th year, the tournament is organized by The Committee for the Betterment of Carenage with sponsorship support from Offshore Marine, Guardian Insurance, and Premier Wines and Spirits.

Northside Sportfishing Club will hold its 25th Anniversary Bastille Day Kingfish Tournament on Sunday July 14, at Hull Bay Hideaway. The angler who reels in the largest kingfish will pocket $2000 in cash plus many other cash prizes. Also, everyone’s name will be entered into a special Silver Anniversary drawing where five lucky registered anglers will win $500 each.

 Over the course of the academic year, Jessica Murphy, an upper elementary schoolteacher at V.I. Montessori School and Peter Gruber International Academy, has been involved with an athletic program called Crossfit St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands.

 On Saturday, May 18, the USVI Soccer Association boys-under-15 team will be traveling to Tortola, British Virgin Islands, to take part in an invitational tournament.

 The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation announces that the Hounds & Foxes has competed well in Puerto Rico. The Hounds & Foxes Track Club had an excellent showing in the Hershey Qualifier Track Meet in Puerto Rico and at the Copey Track Meet the following week, also in Puerto Rico.

 The catch of a 34.49-pound dolphin (mahi-mahi) earned St. Thomas angler Tamika Turbe Top Angler and a $1,000 cash prize on May 5 at the Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club’s (VIGFC) Dolphin Derby.

 The U.S.V.I. Soccer Association has announced the opening training sessions for its Boys Under 15 National Team. The first training session will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on Monday, May 6, on both St. Croix and St. Thomas.

 With less than four weeks until the 10th Annual Beach-to-Beach Power Swim, Friends of Virgin Islands National Park reminds potential participants they can save money if they register by Friday, May 3. The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 26, Memorial Day weekend.
