BURIAL GROUND RESPONSE: A TALE OF 2 PLACES

In 1990, the remains of an earlier community were uncovered as work began on Tutu Park Mall. A year later, in New York City, an 18th Century burial ground was similarly found as work began on a new federal building. What followed in New York couldn't happen on St. Thomas: Federal funds flowed in response to community calls for a public commemoration of the lives of those so long forgotten.
