Three events are slated for the opening of the school year – V.I. Fathers Back to School Barbecue and Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 27; the Back to School Days of Prayer on Saturday , Sept. 3, and Sunday, Sept. 4; and the V.I. Fathers March on Sept. 6, the first day of school for public schools in the territory. Organizers are encouraging fathers to take their children back to school starting on the first day.

Coastweeks Doubles Down on Goal of Pristine Beaches

Coastweeks events in the territory will run from Sept. 17 through Oct. 31. This year, events will include a renewed emphasis on litter prevention thanks to a $99,000 Marine Debris Program grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to researchers at the University of the Virgin Islands.

UVI SGA President Named National HBCU All-Star

University of the Virgin Islands Student Government Association (SGA) President Kevin Dixon was named a 2014 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) All-Star in February. The All-Star selection is part of a White House Initiative that recognizes 75 undergraduate, graduate and professional students for their accomplishments in academics, leadership and civic engagement.
