For the 60th anniversary of V.I. Carnival, the renowned Grucci family of New York again has been commissioned to produce the Carnival fireworks finale at 9 p.m. Saturday.
Staged from a barge in the cove across from Carnival Village, the 15-minute Fireworks By Grucci display is being orchestrated by St. Thomas-based Left Lane Productions and Events. The 170-year old company’s benchmark of precision-fireworks displays include shows for seven consecutive presidential inaugurations, the Olympics, Las Vegas, New York’s Times Square, and Statue of Liberty.
Grucci was actually the first to produce the finale for V.I. Carnival more than 24 years ago. Their shows, which are notably different from others seen in the Caribbean, feature designer patterns, large signature Grucci bouquets and their famous grand finale.
“Given the budget constraints and short fall of private sponsorship investment, we are indeed grateful and honored to still commemorate this milestone for Carnival with a special show,” commented Steve Bornn, producer and production manager.
The best spots to fully enjoy the awe of the Carnival fireworks will be downtown at Carnival Village and its adjacent waterfront area. The show will feature sequences highlighted by special effects designed for viewing in close proximity.
Boats normally anchored in the area will be required to relocate from the restricted zone.
Virgin Islands Carnival is supported in part by the U.S. Virgin Islands Tourism Department. Participating sponsors of The “Fireworks Spectacular” are Virgin Islands Lottery and WSTA Lucky 13 Radio. Additionally, the Fireworks By Grucci are supported in part by assistance from Crowley Marine, Boynes Trucking Systems, Tropical Shipping, MSI Building Supplies and Challenger Trucking.
