On Wednesday, June 5, Gov. John deJongh Jr. presented a radio address outlining the economic problems facing the territory and proposing legislation to deal with it.
The current term of office of Thurston T. McKelvin, Federal Public Defender for the District of the Virgin Islands is due to expire on May 9, 2003. As required by statute, 18 U.S.C. §§3006A, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit is considering the reappointment of Mr. McKelvin to a new four year term and has appointed a committee to assist in its review. The Committee consists of nine attorneys from the U.S. Virgin Islands, who will report their findings to the Court of Appeals.
