Hi EAST
Great pictures...nice to see what good works you are doing in the community.
I only recognize one person in the pics: Jason Budsan, from my time as Pres of EAST ('93-'95ish?). Hi Jason
Keep up the good work!
Denise (nee Michelini) Sears
Thanks for doing such a wonderful job of planting trees. So many times I see development happening in St. Thomas where no trees are planted to replace the onces that has been removed. One question though, what type of trees were planted. In addition, I do hope that this project could be expanded to other areas of the islands. Keep out the good work East.
Thank you for your kind words, yes we need more trees territory wide. We planted 37 types of trees, over 80% were native. In total we planted over 300 trees at the animal care center with the help of over 100 volunteers working two days straight. We thank each and every person who did a fantastic job with us.
What the VI needs now is a tree ordnance law that is up date allowing for trees to grow and thrive in all locations, city limit areas, streets and highways, parks and just about everywhere for proper care in designated areas for them to thrive and grow.
Over development and the lack of long term urban planning takes a toll on our way of life and trees add to some sense serenity that we all crave and need.
Yes, EAST, SEA and VICS ( Virgin Islands Conservation Society) will continue to work with the Urban and Community Forestry program in the future with our projects. However even though it is grant, we need to make the match by in kind or dollars. With your support we can do this, so join the movement today at eastvi.org or stxenvironmental.org
Thank you!
Jason Budsan
