V.I. National Guard Symposium Set

The Virgin Islands National Guard (VING) will conduct two symposiums throughout the territory to share information on careers for military officers. It is open to anyone interested in information on becoming a military officer. The symposium will cover basic branch officer information including the Reserved Officer Training Corp (ROTC) and Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). In addition, there will be presentations on the Warrant Officer Branch and special career areas like Army Aviation Army Medical.

Foundation to Honor Geraldo Guirty

The African Diaspora Youth Development Foundation Inc. will memorialize Geraldo Guirty. It will be a Centennial Transfer event, and Guirty’s friend and fellow historian Senate President Myron Jackson will be the guest speaker. Jahweh David, poet and multi-media artist, will also be featured. Guirty, an author and journalist, was present at the Transfer of the Danish Virgin Islands to the American government in 1917. There will be refreshments served at the end of the program. A plaque and photo will be donated to the library in Guirty’s honor.  This is a free Centennial event.

Carabana Ensemble Theater Two-Night Play

In celebration of the U.S. Virgin Islands Centennial, the Carabana Ensemble Theater Company will present a two-character play entitled “Dear Anna/Dear Peter.” The play explores the legendary 20-year relationship between Anna Heegard, a "free colored" woman, and Peter von Scholten, governor general of the Danish Virgin Islands. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $10 for seniors or children.  The play is funded by the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts. For information and tickets, call Brown Bag Tickets.
