On Thursday, April 25, the St. Thomas community was enjoying J'Ouvert when the celebration was shattered by gunshots which injured three people. Public safety officials immediately canceled the remainder of J'Ouvert.
As I understand it the board of elections has or will receive funding of $150,000 to conduct party primaries throughout the territory as well as additional funding for improving our elections system. Some of the funding came from the St. John Capital improvements fund but I am still unsure what the true status of those funds are to date. We need accurate financial information for our lawmakers before they vote on these measures. Why then is it that only Oswald Harris court the only proposed station for the St.Thomas/ St. John district? Why and how was Oswald Harris court selected? Wouldn't Joseph Gomez Elementary School or Addelita Cancryn Jr. High School been a been a better location instead? Is there any way that St. John could at least have a station open since most the monies came from them? The primaries are right around the corner and I urge all eligible voters to do their duty and vote.
