Edwin Ponce, a 33-year-old resident of Old Fredensborg Village, was arrested early Saturday and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The arrest was made at 6 a.m. Saturday by detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau executing a search and arrest warrant. When officers approached Ponce’s residence, a loaded .38 caliber firearm was tossed out the window and recovered by forensic officers, police said. Ponce was arrested without incident.
Special Operations Bureau, forensic technicians and patrol officers also participated in the operation.
Police said the arrest is part of the ongoing investigation into the Aug. 29 murder of Carlos Juan Rosa of Old Fredensborg Village. Another suspect, 41-year-old Edwin Rivera, also known as “Cepi,” was arrested the same day as the murder and charged with that crime.
Ponce was held on a $25,000 bail and remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending further court action.
