Police Recover Stolen Vehicle, Find Unlicensed Firearm

At 2:10 p.m. Monday, V.I. Police Department officers on St. Thomas spotted a vehicle that had been reported as stolen. In recovering the car, they also took an unlicensed firearm off the street.

According to the police report, officers stopped the vehicle and found 22-year-old Javan Benjamin of Bordeaux behind the wheel.

While the officers conducted a search of Benjamin and the vehicle, they allegedly discovered an unlicensed firearm tucked into Benjamin’s pants.

Benjamin was charged with using a vehicle without authorization and possession of an unlicensed firearm. He was held on $35,000 bail and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections, pending his advice of rights hearing.
