Joseph Robert Jr. Arrested in Cruz Bay on Gun Charges

Joseph Robert Jr., who will turn 27 Friday, was arrested Thursday after a fight at Cap’s Place bar in Cruz Bay, Police Department spokesman Melody Rames said.

He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, in this case a Smith and Wesson 40-caliber gun.

Police were called to Cap’s Place at 11:45 a.m. after someone allegedly saw Robert carrying a gun while in a fight with another customer. The customer suffered injuries to his head.

“He refused medical treatment and refused to speak to the police officers,” Rames said.

She said police officers arrived at the scene while Robert and the injured person were still there. Officers said Robert fled, throwing the gun as he ran. According to Rames, officers recovered the gun near the bar.

Robert, who Rames said lives at Bergs Homes on St. Thomas, was held on $25,000 bail.
