Search for Suspect Leads Police to Firearm, Drugs

Police on St. Thomas participating in a proactive inspection of the Paul M. Persons Gardens apartments recovered a fully loaded firearm, crack cocaine and marijuana, the V.I. Police Department said.

The inspection occurred about 3:30 p.m. Monday. Officers were searching for a suspect who might have been involved in a recent robbery. While checking the hallway of Building 16, police found a fully loaded Glock 9 mm handgun wrapped in a T-shirt on top of a television. Behind the television were 18 small plastic bags of crack cocaine. In other areas police confiscated several potted marijuana plants.

Officers from the Richard Callwood Command, Zone A, and the Special Operations Bureau participated in the inspection, according to Tuesdays report from the VIPD.

All the evidence was processed and secured. The case remains open and police will conduct additional inspections when necessary.
