Inmates Arrested for Prison Assault

Two Bureau of Corrections inmates were arrested by St. Thomas police after they were caught beating another inmate with their fists.

The inmates, Jose Almestica and Javern Phillip, were arrested shortly after 5 p.m.Wednesday, and charged with simple assault and battery. Bail has not been set for either of the men, who have been returned to the BOC pending further court action.

The victim, whose name has not been released by police, lost consciousness during the fight and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was later released after being treated for bruises to the body, according to a V.I. Police Department news release.
