The V.I. Police Department seized a small arsenal of weapons in two separate incidents Friday and Saturday morning on St. Thomas.
In a Monday news release, the police outlined the two incidents.
At 10 a.m. Friday, the 911 center received calls from residents reporting shots fired in vicinity of Nadir. Responding officers recovered a sawed off shotgun, a Glock handgun with several extended magazines, ammunition, and drugs.
Some 16 hours later, at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the Oswald Harris Court area. There they saw an individual leaving the area and dropping a folding chair bag. The officers inspected and recovered an AK-47 with two magazines.
The officers were unable to locate the man after the officers recovered the weapon.
Acting Chief Jason Marsh thanked the community for making the calls that resulted in the seizure of the weapons. He reminded the public that, "Working together, we can make this community safer for all us."
