viNGN Board Approves New President

Following the recent resignation of Lawrence “Larry” Kupfer, Virgin Islands Next Generation Network board members voted Thursday to appoint Tonjia Coverdale as the company’s new president and chief executive officer.

Kupfer, formerly Hovensa’s chief operating officer, was tapped to lead viNGN in April of 2012, replacing Alfred Boschulte, who stepped in after the termination of former viNGN head Julito Francis a few months before.

According to a resolution approved by viNGN board members Thursday, Kupfer will stay on as a consultant for the company over the next three months in order to “ensure a smooth transition.”

Coverdale comes to viNGN from the University of the Virgin Islands, where she served as director of program development and assistant professor of computer information systems within the business school. She has a doctorate in information science and systems, and a masters of business administration in computer science.

Another resolution approved during Thursday’s board meeting approves her appointment as the company’s new president and chief executive officer and gives her the authorizations needed to conduct business.

Calls made to viNGN Thursday for additional information on Kupfer’s resignation and other matters were not returned.
