Air Force Airman Ashton A. Swift
Air Force Airman Ashton A. Swift/St. Thomas
Feb. 1, 2010 (Joint Hometown News Service) – Air Force Airman Ashton A. Swift graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Juliene Pickering of Estate Thomas, and grandson of Aileen Swift of Crown and Hawk, both of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Swift is a 2009 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, St. Thomas.
Army Reserve Spec. Deshaun L. Isaac/St. Thomas
Feb. 1, 2010 (Joint Hometown News Service) – Army Reserve Spec. Deshaun L. Isaac has been mobilized and activated at Fort Dix, N.J., in preparation for deployment to serve in support of either Operations Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom. The soldier is a member of the 912th Human Resources Company based in Miami, Fla.
The soldiers are normally activated from Army Reserve or Army National Guard units from throughout the U.S. They go through a series of in-processing procedures and training classes that prepare them for skills and situations they may face in their deployed environment.
Isaac, a postal clerk, has served in the military for three years.
He is the grandson of Dorine D. Petty of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The specialist is a 2005 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, St. Thomas.
Army Chief Warrant Officer 3 Warner D. Anthony/St. Thomas
Feb. 6, 2010 (Joint Hometown News Service) – Army Chief Warrant Officer 3 Warner D. Anthony has returned to Fort Stewart, Hinesville, Ga., after being deployed overseas at a forward operating base to serve in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq. Mission objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counter-insurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers to govern the peoples of Iraq.
Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces are also assisting in rebuilding Iraq’s economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and independence as a democracy.
Anthony is a division material management technician regularly assigned to the Division Support Brigade, Headquarters Company. The chief warrant officer three has served in the military for 20 years.
He is the son of Cynthia L. Warner and Edric Jones, both of Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands.
The chief graduated in 1982 from Charlotte Amalie High School and received an associate degree in 1994 from the University of Maryland, Adelphi.
Army National Guard Spec. Renee O. Thomas/St. Thomas
Feb. 6, 2010 (Joint Hometown News Service) – Army National Guard Spec. Renee O. Thomas has deployed to the U.S. Naval Base, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to serve as a member of Joint Task Force-GTMO in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and/or Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Servicemembers from all branches of the U.S. armed forces are involved in a joint-military operation whose mission is to conduct safe and humane care and custody of detained enemy combatants; to conduct interrogation operations to collect strategic intelligence; and ensure and support coordination among government agencies involved in the detention of suspected terrorists.
Thomas, a supply specialist, is a member of the 786th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, based at Leonard B. Francis Armory, U.S. Virgin Islands. She has served in the military for three years.
She is the daughter of Carlene R. Thomas of Anna’s Retreat and Henry T. Thomas of St. Joseph and Rosendahl Ave., both of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The specialist is a 2004 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, St. Thomas.

Feb. 6, 2010 (Joint Hometown News Service) – Army National Guard Master Sgt. Kent S. Bellot has deployed to the U.S. Naval Base, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to serve as a member of Joint Task Force-GTMO in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and/or Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Servicemembers from all branches of the U.S. armed forces are involved in a joint-military operation whose mission is to conduct safe and humane care and custody of detained enemy combatants; to conduct interrogation operations to collect strategic intelligence; and ensure and support coordination among government agencies involved in the detention of suspected terrorists.
Bellot is a transportation logistics chief with the 786th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, based at Leonard B. Francis Armory, U.S. Virgin Islands. He has served in the military for 21 years.
He is the son of Robinson Bellot of Frydendahl St., St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The master sergeant graduated in 1988 from Charlotte Amalie High School, St. Thomas, and received an associate degree in 1998 from the University of the Virgin Islands.
Marine Corps Pvt. Terance B. Bonelli/St. Thomas
Feb. 6, 2010 (Fleet Hometown News Center) – Marine Corps Pvt. Terance B. Bonelli, a 2007 graduate of All Saints Cathedral High School, St. Thomas, V. I., recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C., designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.
Bonelli and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a. m., by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, he spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments, which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. They performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training.
Bonelli and other recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps’ core values of honor, courage and commitment, and what the core values mean in guiding personal and professional conduct. They ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour team evolution culminating in an emotional ceremony in which recruits are presented the Marine Corps Emblem, and addressed as "Marines" for the first time in their careers.

She is the sister of Gary Nicholas of Flamboyant Welcome St. and Berisa Miller of King St., both of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The sergeant major earned a master’s degree in 2003 from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant.

The sergeant graduated in 1990 from Charlotte Amalie High School, St. Thomas, and received a bachelor’s degree in 2009 from American Intercontinental University, Ill.

Marine Corps Pfc. Johnnie Encarnacion/St. Croix
Feb. 20, 2010 (Navy Fleet Hometown News Center) – Marine Corps Pfc. Johnnie Encarnacion, son of Hortencia P. Encarnacion of Christiansted, Virgin Islands, and David R. Pugh of Christiansted, V. I., recently completed the Marine Corps Basic Enlisted Supply Course with honors.
During the course at the Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools Training Command, Camp Lejeune, N. C., students learn to use supply publications and catalogs, general accounting and the basics of navalcorrespondence.
Encarnacion joined the Marine Corps in June 2009.
Army National Guard Spec. Lateefa K. Barry/St. Thomas
Feb. 20, 2010 ( ) – Army National Guard Spec. Lateefa K. Barry has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values. She received instruction and practice in physical fitness, basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
She is the daughter of Dayle and Angela Barry of Estate Contant, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Barry graduated in 2004 from Charlotte Amalie High School, St. Thomas, and received a bachelor’s degree in 2008 from the University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas.
