Carnival Time: Upcoming Events at the St. Thomas Historical Trust and Elsewhere

The Public Works Department is already nailing the roofs on the reviewing stands in Veterans’ On Wednesday, April 11, the Fort Christian parking lot closed in order for the Carnival Village to be built. This has impacted parking downtown a good deal, so those who are planning a museum visit, please call first (774-5541) and the museum will try to identify some parking for you.

While the tour is not as physically demanding as previous tours, it will still require sturdy shoes (hiking shoes are ideal), at least 32 oz. of water, sunscreen and a bag lunch. To gauge whether you are physically ready, expect the equivalant of hiking the 99 steps four or five times over the period of about 3-4 hours.
May 13 – Mother’s Day Memberships, Museum Visits and new Exhibits
Surprise Mom with a gift of Historical Trust membership. It’s just $25 annually. Or make a plan to bring Mom by the museum for a tour featuring our scores of photos from the early 20th century, our incredible collection of beautiful antiques and a super new exhibit of three decades of artwork by local artist Marie Moore, donated by celebrated art collector Ms. Savanna Clark of Washington, D.C.
Also new, we have a copy of articles from the St. Croix Avis from 1819, with a story about a recent hurricane, "…all the fences have been destroyed, many houses unroofed and some entirely blown down, every wharf injured in some degree…" Stop by and give it a read.
In addition to exhibits on the inside of the museum, we have been sprucing up our entry courtyard and are looking for orchids and other flowering plants. The crowns of thorns and desert roses we planted last year are thriving and we’ve recently planted a new lime tree. For those of you who have too many orchids, they could certainly have a happy home here and beautify the historic entrance. The courtyard has plenty of shade with limited direct sun during the day. The locked gate offers security for your plants, but allows for their appreciation by visitors, passersby, volunteers and staff.
