Viola Louisa Simmonds died on Dec. 24 at her residence. She was 95 years old. She was a longtime Girl Scouts leader, a founding member of the Virgin Islands Girl Scouts Council and a retired educator.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph V. Simmonds.
She is survived by her sons: Rhett Simmonds and Roi Simmonds: daughters: Ruby Simmonds Esannason and Ralda Simmonds; stepchildren: Blanche Simmonds Yearwood and Henry “Mickey” Simmonds; and grandchildren: Lo-An Sewer, Zenzi Hodge and Sulema Simmonds.
She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Andria Weeks, Andre George and Rafael Hodge; sisters-in-law: Norma Simmonds and Delia Simmonds; son-in-law, Rubio Esannason; grandsons-in-law: Aaron Hodge Sr. and Earl Lake; special daughters: Shermel Osborne, Carmen Hamilton and Karen Bunn; special sons: Clement White and Calford Martin; special nephew and nieces: Al Simmonds, Joan Nichols and Lynette Scott; and other family and friends too numerous to mention.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Celestial Chapel, Hurley Funeral Home. The service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Frederick Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Eastern Cemetery.
