Federico O. Dottin M.D. Dies

Federico O. Dottin M.D. was born on Aug. 11, 1923, in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, to Juan Thomas Dottin and Dominga Otero vda Dottin. He died peacefully on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands on Monday, Jan. 13.
He received his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and obtained his radiology residency from Mt. Sinai Hospital at Chicago, IL, and New York Presbyterian Hospital. He served as chief of radiology at the Knud Hansen Memorial Hospital on St. Thomas from 1959 to 1978. After his retirement he served as professor of radiology at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU) and the Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago (UTESA) where many were honored to receive instruction from el Professor Dr. Dottin.
He is survived by his wife, Iris Carrillo de Dottin. Together they have four children: Iris E. Dottin M.D., CSM Federico O. Dottin Jr. (retired), Leonor D. Dottin and Georgina “Gigi” Dottin; daughter in-law, Terri K. Dottin; and four grandchildren who were his pride, his life and his inspiration: Federico “Trip” O. Dottin III, Abigail Ramos-Dottin, Ismael A. Ramos-Dottin and Matthew F. Ambrose-Dottin.
He is also survived by his brothers-in-law: José Manuel Carrillo, José Miguel Carrillo, José Pilar Carrillo and José Raúl Carrillo; and his sisters-in-law: Beatrice Guerra vda de Dottin, Dalila Solano vda de Dottin, Georgina Carrillo-Febres, Orgyll Carrillo and C. Awilda Muniz de Carrillo.
Other survivors include the Dottin-Otero and Carrillo-Gonzalez families of Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Europe and the United States; and special friends: Alfred O. Heath M.D. Dr. Carlos Manuel Finke, Dr. Rafael Cantizano, Dr. Cesar Moliné, Don Bienvenido and Doña Lala Valenzuela. Special care was provided by Continuum Care and his special in-home care givers during his illness: Doñas Ramona, Lily, Angelina, Luva and Amparo.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, at Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral Restoration Fund.
