On Thursday, April 25, the St. Thomas community was enjoying J'Ouvert when the celebration was shattered by gunshots which injured three people. Public safety officials immediately canceled the remainder of J'Ouvert.

Main Entrance to Havensight, WICO Dock Closed through Sunday

The main entrance and exit to the Havensight Shopping Mall and the West Indian Company dock and will be closed beginning Thursday at 5 a.m. as work crews lay asphalt in the area.

Kai John Gumbs Dies at 28

Kai John Gumbs, also known as "Tallest," of Estate Anna's Hope died on July 22. He was 28 years old.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Cy Gumbs; grandparents: Bernell and Lynette Herbert;   and aunt, Kayette Herbert.
He is survived by his children: Minnai Gumbs, Kai John Gumbs Jr., K Niyah Gumbs, Ja' Kai Gumbs and A' Kai Gumbs; mother, Tracey Herbert Stoute; father: John Gumbs Sr.; stepfather: Ignatus Stoute; brothers: John Gumbs Jr., Jaquall Gumbs and Joleles Gumbs; sister, Tiana Gumbs; grandparents, Daisy Jacobs; aunts: Edna Herbert, Jewel Kemp, Bernice Rivers, Janice Abraham, Candis Herbert, Nilda Cruz, Sonya Clark and Apra Jacobs; uncles: Bernell Herbert Jr., Rudy Herbert, Earl Herbert, Dino Herbert, Terrance Gumbs and Jay Jacobs; great aunts: Enid Washington (N.Y.), Ann Gumbs and Regno Gumbs; great uncle: Alexander Lewis (N.Y.); and godparents: Nilda Cruz and Miguel Cruz.
He is also survived by cousins: Nicole Bowns (N.Y.), Tenoa Kemps (Texas), Walter Blackman (N.Y.), Te' Shanee Daley (N.Y.), James Abraham Jr. (N.Y.), Janell Abraham (N.Y.), Earl Herbert Jr. (N.Y.), Chinue Herbert (N.Y.), Ade Herbert (N.Y.), Camaue Herbert (N.Y.), Rehema Herbert Hall (Philadelphia.), David Clarke Jr., Danah-Marie Clarke, Omaly Gumbs, Jonari Jacobs, Jayden Jacobs, Gabriella Jacobs, Donelle Herbert, Iwanya Herbert and Bernell Herbert III; special friends: Sherae Victorine, Janelle Dickey, Levisha Hodge, Tresha Augustine, Jesus Montanez and Damien Bell; as well as other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
There will be a viewing held at 10 a.m. and a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, at the Lord God of Sabaoth Lutheran Church.. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery.
The family requests that those who attend wear festive colors.
