On Thursday, April 25, the St. Thomas community was enjoying J'Ouvert when the celebration was shattered by gunshots which injured three people. Public safety officials immediately canceled the remainder of J'Ouvert.

The 10th annual Beach to Beach Power Swim is set for Sunday on St. John and, with the entries capped at 300, time is running out to register. Last year, 283 swimmers raised $20,000.

Shooting Claims life of 18-year-old Vasheo Donastorg

According to police, Vasheo Donastorg was washing his car outside his home on Lime Street when shots rang out Monday evening, killing the 18-year-old. Police are urging anyone with information to call.

Deaths — St. Thomas
Juana B.Oritz Dies at 80

Juana B.Oritz, better known as “Tita,” died on April 14. She was born in the Dominican Republic. She was 80 years old. 
She lived on St. Thomas, V.I., with her late husband Luis Ortiz since the early 1950s.
She is survived by her sons and daughters: Federico, Miguel, Angel, Mary, Milagros, Josefina and Malli; grandchildren too numerous to mention; special friends:  Taity, Carmen and Lucy along with many others too numerous to mention.
The viewing will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, at John Thomas Memorial Chapel followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Eastern Smith Bay Cemetery.
 All arrangements are by John Thomas Memorial Chapel.
