Three events are slated for the opening of the school year – V.I. Fathers Back to School Barbecue and Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 27; the Back to School Days of Prayer on Saturday , Sept. 3, and Sunday, Sept. 4; and the V.I. Fathers March on Sept. 6, the first day of school for public schools in the territory. Organizers are encouraging fathers to take their children back to school starting on the first day.

Homeschoolers Want Legislative Remedy

The U.S. Virgin Islands Homeschoolers (USVIH) are asking the public to help them by contacting the V.I. Legislature and telling senators to vote for a bill that would transfer oversight of home schooling from the V.I. Board of Education to the Senate.

Deaths — St. Thomas
Harold Vanterpool Dies at 72

Feb. 6, 2009 - Harold Vanterpool, better known as "Bare Suit," of Estate Frydenhoj died on Jan. 25, at his residence. He was 72 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie "Suzie" Vanterpool; adopted son, Leando Stridiron; adopted daughters: Nicole Brin and Lael Housen; brothers: Antonio, Leo, Walter, Earl, Dean and Clyde Vanterpool; sisters: Eleanor Mitchell, Shirley Lans, Judith Greene-Smith, and Stephanie Vanterpool; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
There will be a first viewing held from 5-7 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 6, at Veteran's Drive Fire Station. A second viewing will take place at 9 a.m. and a funeral service at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Christchurch Methodist. Interment will follow at Western Cemetery No. 1.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Davis Funeral Home, 774-1464.
