Ronald McDonald Kicks Off McHappy Day

TADA Therapists Kelly Neevel and Lisa Parfitt celebrate the launch of the 2012 McHappy Day Campaign with Ronald McDonald who Kicks Off McHappy Day on St. ThomasRonald McDonald was on hand Tuesday as Arcos Dorados, the franchisee for McDonald’s in Latin America and the Caribbean, announced the launch of its McHappy Day initiative on St. Thomas. This year, all proceeds from the initiative on St. Thomas will be donated to the Therapy Association and Disability Advocates (TADA).
McHappy Day is McDonald’s global initiative to raise funds to assist local children’s charities. Ronald McDonald visited St. Thomas to celebrate the official start of the 2012 McHappy Day.
“We are looking forward to a very successful McHappy Day. We’re inviting the St. Thomas community to help us raise funds to help TADA,” said Tatiana Rodriguez, marketing representative of Arcos Dorados Caribbean Division. “Our goal for 2012 is to raise over $3,000 for TADA.”
Lisa Parfitt, a TADA representative, said, “We are so thankful for the contribution that McDonald’s is making to our organization through this initiative. Last year the proceeds from McHappy Day helped TADA purchase a new wheelchair for a teenager in St. Croix who suffers from cerebral palsy. This year we look forward to helping out more children and their families.”
TADA is a non-profit organization that advocates resources and makes provisions for children with disabilities in the Virgin Islands.
Supporters can participate in McHappy Day at McDonald’s through the following initiatives:
• Paper Hands: Individuals can purchase a “paper hand” for only $1 to support TADA at any McDonald’s restaurant on St. Thomas. Paper hands will be available for purchase between Oct. 16 and Nov. 15.
• Corporate Big Mac Coupons: Corporations that wish to participate in supporting McHappy Day can purchase Big Mac coupons between Oct. 16 and Nov. 15 to be handed out to clients, employees, friends and family. These coupons can be redeemed for a Big Mac on McHappy Day, Friday, Nov. 16, only.
• Buy a Big Mac: All day during McHappy Day on Friday, Nov. 16, the community can contribute by visiting McDonald’s restaurants and ordering a Big Mac. McDonald’s will donate all proceeds from the sale of Big Macs on McHappy Day to TADA.
While the initiative on St. Thomas launched on Tuesday, the operation on St. Croix will officially launch on Thursday, Oct. 18. Proceeds from the St. Croix McDonald’s will benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). CASA trains volunteers to become advocates for children, during court proceedings, who have been traumatized by abuse or neglect.
This year during McHappy Day, all McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S.V.I. will organize activities to motivate consumers to make donations. “We encourage everyone who wants to make a difference to visit our McDonald’s restaurants and make their contribution and show their support for children in need,” added Rodriguez.
