KEMMLER HAS NEW SHOW OPENING

Long-time St. Thomas resident and well-known artist Jens-Peter Kemmler will open a new exhibition of his work, "In a Caribbean Garden", beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mango Tango Gallery at Al Cohen's Mall on Raphune Hill.
The 30 works to be displayed include watercolors, oils and sketches – all current works in the theme.
Works include paintings with garden themes, orchids and West Indian
cottage gardens. The subject material was derived from the Virgin
islands and other Caribbean Islands, most notably Dominica, according to Kemmler.
On a recent trip to Dominica, several of the works in the show were created on site.
Of particular interest Kemmler will show a large watercolor triptych measuring 26 x 80" depicting a vista of St. Thomas Historic district and harbor.
Other works include flowering orchids from the artist's garden as well as
antheridium, executed in watercolor as well as oil sketches on paper.
"After a lengthy restoration of home and studio here, I have finally
been able to continue my work and mount this show," Kemmler said.
"I have resided on St.Thomas for most of my adult life and have grown to respect and appreciate the beauty and flavor of this very special place. I hope that my paintings will leave the viewer with that in mind."
The show will hang until March 11 at the gallery.
