A man was shot and killed Thursday afternoon behind the Giant Gas in Estate Thomas, the V.I. Police reported.
The victim was identified by next of kin as Elroy Rieara, according to the police news release. It was the 22nd homicide on St. Thomas since the beginning of the year, the 39th in the territory.
According to police at 4:45 p.m. Thursday the 911 center received calls reporting that someone had been shot behind the gas station.
When officers from the Major Crimes Unit arrived the victim was being examined by the emergency medical technicians and was subsequently transported by ambulance to the Schneider Regional Medical Center Medical Center.
The victim succumbed to his injuries from the gunshot wound.
