VITFF Team Member Leon Hunt Coaches Young People in India

Leon Hunt with some Indian friends

The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation (VITFF) congratulates Leon Hunt, VITFF team member and CAC University Games medalist in the long jump, for his successful trip to India where he shared his talents as a track and field coach in the sprints and jumps with young people.  Hunt had initially targeted qualifying for the long jump at the IAAF World Championships, which are currently being contested, as his goal for 2017. An opportunity for the India trip was made possible through the assistance of Nathan Taylor, who is a V.I. National Track and Field coach as well as the head coach of track and field at Spire Academy and the Olympic Training Center in Ohio.

While overcoming the language barrier, Hunt became a successful teacher of the technical aspects of track and field, which are basically a universal language.  He liked how enthusiastic his pupils, mostly in their teens, were about the instruction and how adaptable they were to the skill requirement of the drills he put them through.  He intends to return to training for the 2018 CAC Games.
