St. Thomas, will host the 2017 Women’s Centrobasket Championship, from July 12-16, the International Basketball Federation in the Americas announced this week. The tournament will feature the national teams from the Bahamas, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and will be broadcast live on FIBA’s official Youtube channel.
“This competition provides an important platform for women’s basketball throughout the region and we are confident it will be a successful event for the enjoyment of the fans of our sport in St. Thomas,” Central American and Caribbean Confederation President Ruperto Herrera said in a statement.
After the 5-day tournament, the top three teams will qualify to the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2017, to be played in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from August 6-13.
The last edition of the Women’s Centrobasket Championship was played in Monterrey, Mexico, where Cuba captured the title with a perfect 5-0 record.
