Sen. Marvin Blyden and the Virgin Islands Housing Authority (VIHA) extend an open invitation to all public housing residents — particularly fathers, grandfathers and father-figures — to come out for a day of fun, food and fellowship.
The Father’s Day event will be held from 4-8 p.m., Friday, June 23, at the Oswald Harris Court basketball court.
The day will be an acknowledgment of fathers in the community; there will be food and drinks, awards, games, live performances by father and son calypsonians King Whadablee and Khamoi, General Val, world boxing champ Julian “the Hawk” Jackson, and live presentations and resource materials from V.I. Fire, Home Depot, St. Thomas East End Medical Center, Dr. Wendy Koram-Vialet, Family Resource Center and V.I. Housing Finance.
Activities will be centered on fathers interacting with their children, community togetherness and a whole lot of fun. This event is part of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) initiative to recognize fathers within public housing communities across the nation.
