Man Injured in Simonds Alley Shooting

One man was treated for a gunshot wound early Monday at the Schneider Regional Medical Center after a shooting near midnight near Simonds Alley.

The 911 emergency center received a call at 12:05 a.m. Monday reporting shots fired in the area of Kronprinsens Gade and Simonds Alley. Shortly after, 911 received a report of a gunshot victim being treated at the hospital emergency room.

At the emergency room the officers made contact with the 22-year-old male victim, whose name was not released by police. He told them that as he was walking westward on Kronprinsens Gade, an unknown male walked up to him and asked him if the car wash was open. The victim said “it felt suspicious” so he kept looking back. Then he saw the suspect pull out a firearm from his waist and begin firing shots at him.

The victim told officers he grabbed the suspects hand, at which time a scuffle ensued as the male kept firing shots. The victim ran away while the suspect fled in an unknown direction, but he said he later felt a burning sensation and realized that he had been shot.

An unknown citizen drove by in a vehicle and gave him a ride to the hospital, according to police.

The victim sustained a single gunshot wound to his left upper shoulder. He was treated by the emergency room doctor and released.

Police urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 ext. 5579 or 5556.
