Stop the Speeding and Save a Life

Dear Source:

Why doesn’t this Government care about the St. Thomas Protected Park and Wildlife Preserve?  There is a menacing problem of excessive speeding through the Park on the Magens Bay Road. The 60 seconds gained by speeding is lost when everyone must stop at the guard gate. It is ignorant to take the risk of an accident or worse by speeding on the Magens Bay Road.

Public Works and the Police Department should take the initiative and work together providing safety on the road. These two Government departments have totally ignored this potential “disaster area” since September 2016. The Magens Bay Authority held a board meeting on  September 23, 2016 and the topic of discussion was speeding on the Magens Bay Road. There were different Government department heads there and nothing has been done since.

There is another reason to slow traffic down. It is the current construction of the Magens Junction Apartments. Two driveways will now be at the top of the road on a blind corner. More pedestrians, more cars and more risks.

Do any Senators want to help make the Magens Bay Road safe?

This is not a new problem, but it is a serious one and it is getting worse. What is holding this Government back? You could save a life, or are you waiting until one is taken?

  1. Thank you for reporting. However, speeding and going through red lights has become endemic across the island. Yesterday I saw a car go through a red light across from Emancipation Park. In the next lane was a police car who stopped, but nothing was done about the red light runner.
The government coffers could be filled if we had red light cameras.

  2. This is ridiculous, you can barely ever exceed the 25MPH speed limit on the road since thh top is so curvy and the bottom has a ridiculous 10mph speed limit but there is nothing along the road. Yes the road is dangerous because of the blind turns and dangerous intersections but if the government is going to spend money FIX THE INTERSECTIONS.
Most times you cannot even see around any of them becasue they are so grown up.
