Woman Reports Rape in Bolongo Area

A woman from Texas on Sunday told the V.I. Police Department that she had been raped, the police reported.

At about 1:14 p.m. Sunday officers were dispatched to Bolongo in regards to a disturbance. At the scene, they spoke to a woman who reported she had been raped.

The woman, whose name was not released by the police, said she had met the suspect in Puerto Rico, where he convinced her to come live with him at his residence on St. Thomas. She said after her arrival on St. Thomas the suspect began to initiate intercourse with her on the very first day.

She said on several occasions the suspect held her down on the bed, forced himself on top of her and raped her. She said she attempted to leave the residence but he grabbed her by the throat and kept pushing her, almost throwing her over an embankment. He then took her luggage and threw it down the driveway, at which time she called the 911 emergency call center to remove her from the residence.

The victim said she does not have money to purchase an airline ticket to return to her residence in Texas. After she was interviewed, police contacted the victims’ advocate and the Family Resource Center. She then was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Bureau continue to investigate the occurrence.
