Woman Fights Off Attempted Rapist

A woman told the V.I. Police Thursday night that she had been the victim of an attempted rape and escaped after fighting off her attacker.

The woman, whose name was not released by police, came to the Richard Callwood Command Center at 10:22 p.m. to report the attack. She said she had been jogging in the area of the Pump House on Veterans Drive when an unknown black male grabbed her.

The woman said the man threw her on the ground, then placed his body on her and tried to remove her jogging clothes. She said she grabbed a stone and struck him on his head. The suspect released her, and she ran in a western direction and did not see where the man fled.

Police urged anyone with information about the crime to contact the VIPD Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-714-9807 or 340-714-9805, the 911 call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
