The viNGN Invites Public to Take Part in Digital Learning Day Feb. 23

For the fourth year in a row, Virgin Islands Next Generation Network (viNGN) will observe Digital Learning Day (#DLDay) with a “Pop-Up Coach” session for online businesses from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, at Turnbull Regional Library’s Public Computer Center (PCC) on St. Thomas. At the same time, St. Croix’s V.I. Housing Authority will host the Absolute Beginners Computer Lab from 11 a.m. to noon at the Aureo Diaz Community PCC.

DLD was first launched in 2012 by the Alliance for Excellent Education to give innovative educators an opportunity to shine and collaborate using not only technology but human-powered projects and activities that encourage a love of learning. It has grown into a national observance with over 2,300 hosted activities across the nation.

St. Thomas: “Pop-Up Coach” for individuals who would like to get a business or personal interest online. Stop by with questions and pick up a copy of “The Internet Starter Kit,” a free e-book available on viNGN’s blog, which includes information on Internet safety, blogging, Web sites and social media. Contact Anita Davis of viNGN at 715-8581 x2244

St. Croix: “Absolute Beginners Computer Lab” — Community residents will receive an overview of computing, e-mail and Internet safety and encouraged to take and pass the exam with a score of 80 percent or more. Then, further free training including typing, Microsoft and technical skills training, will be available. Contact Ms. Thomas of VIHA at 713-2336.

There are no restrictions on where and how DLD may be celebrated. If anyone cannot make a formal event, simply decide to check out a technology book at the local library, sign up for a free online course or share tech knowledge with students, friends, family or co-workers.

For more information about free local and online training opportunities, contact Anita Davis of viNGN at: adavis@vingn.com or call 715-8581, ext. 2244. For more details on Digital Learning Day, visit www.digitallearningday.org.
