V.I. Organizations Join to Create ‘USVI Says NO MORE’

The Women’s Coalition of St. Croix (WCSC), the Family Resource Center (FRC) and the V.I. Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Council (DVSAC) are partnering to coordinate ‘USVI Says NO MORE,’ a new territory-centered campaign for awareness and intervention on domestic violence and sexual assault.

The campaign will launch officially in March 2017. As a key part of the campaign, the agencies are producing public service announcements for broadcast on local and national affiliate television and radio stations. "We are pleased to share in the spirit of the national NO MORE campaign by collaborating with WCSC and FRC to promote USVI Says NO MORE," said Khnuma Simmonds-Esannason, executive director of DVSAC.

The support of the NO MORE organization, the use of the iconic symbol and concerted efforts around the organization’s three areas of focus– Education, Prevention and Support — will bring positive attention to the territory and promote peacebuilding for Virgin Islanders, as part of the global community. Government agencies, businesses, civic and faith-based groups, activists and advocates are encouraged to participate and learn more about intervention and prevention of domestic and sexual violence.

"Everyone has to be involved in building healthy relationships and ending domestic abuse and sexual assault. Joining the USVI Says NO MORE campaign is an important way to promote those goals in unity," said Vivian St. Juste, FRC’s executive director.

Signing of the participant pledge by all, learning about the issues and speaking out against them through the campaign will broaden the territory’s network of advocacy and emphasize the goal of nonviolence. "We’re all catalysts for change in our community. Taking the USVI Says NO MORE pledge shows a commitment to peace for ourselves, our children and our islands," said Carolyn Forno, WCSC’s assistant director.
