What would Jesus do has become a catch phrase for all kinds of things: What kind of car would He drive? How would He talk to His mother? Who would He be friends with?
At this auspicious time of remembering His ultimate sacrifice and splendid resurrection, I think it’s a question worth reflecting upon. Our community and other communities across the globe are facing major challenges economically, ecologically, ethically and worse. Wars rage, children starve, politicians lie, governments steal from their people, people steal from each other, parents beat their children, children beat their parents – and we refuse to give an inch of our own to gain a yard for the rest of humanity.
So, what would Jesus do?
A few random questions for thought: would Jesus
– harbor hatred and resentment;
– spread rumors:
– lie about His neighbors
– recycle and compost;
– own a gun;
– judge those around Him;
– love the less fortunate;
– own two yachts;
– use drugs;
– eat Himself into illness;
– love everyone and treat them as He wished to be treated?
I think the answers to these questions are obvious.
I hope that all of us will spend the next four days reflecting on how we can each become more like Jesus. He was God’s child, as are we all.
Wouldn’t it be a wonderful world, if we all acted as if we truly understood that?
Happy Easter!
Thanks. Alan
